Wörthersee is the largest lake in Carinthia with a length of 16.5 kilometres, a width of 1.7km at its widest point and a maximum depth of 85.2 metres. The lake can easily reach a temperature of 25°C in summer, near the shore even 28°C. The word “Wörth” goes back to the Middle High German word “Wert” or “Werder”, which means “island”. The lake has drinking water quality and is certified as “very good” year after year.
